The rounded marble vase was created at the time when Jan Sládek, together with Luděk Havelka and Vincenc Makovský, was involved in the pedagogical activities of the School of Art in Zlín, where Makovský was the head of the shaping of machines and tools (today industrial design). The vase is an example of extraordinary craftsmanship, which is also unique in the field of technological experiments in working with marble shaped into the thinnest possible form. The Bata School of Art and Industry in Zlín was intended to educate industrial artists, taking into account the model of the German Bauhaus movement.
