From the opinion of the PhD. M.Sc. Michael Zachař: "According to family tradition, the painting by František Kaván would have to be from the time before he entered Mařák's studio at the Prague Academy in 1890. It could have been created in the vicinity of his native cottage near Jilemnice, which corresponds to the nature of the terrain and the strikingness of the concept of the landscape, far removed from the romanticism of the time cliché. Similar oils are owned by the Krkonoše Museum in Jilemnice and others are published in my list of the painter's works - cat. no. 20, 38, 39, 70. This may be the discovery of one of Kaván's earliest plein airs."
