Czech most significant baroque sculptor and carver of Tyrolean origin Matyáš Braun was born in Sautens near Innsbruck. Around 1710, Braun settled permanently in Prague, where he soon found friends, customers and a Czech wife. He represents one of the top representatives of the Czech Baroque sculpture scene. Among other things, the statue of St. Luitgard on Charles Bridge. The dramatic expression of the depicted face corresponds to his considerable artistic experience, the work comes from the collection of Max Švabinský.
