This painting is from the “Love from the Street” series exhibited in Paris in April 1926. It is a typical example of the artist’s work, which primarily focused on figurative themes with a social subtext. Unlike his professors at the Academy in Prague (Loukota, Bukovac and Preisler), his style advanced towards Social Civilist symbolism and imagery. The series is mentioned on page 75 of Prokop Toman’s “Nový slovník československých výtvarných umělců” (Encyclopedia of Czechoslovak Artists). Exhibition catalogue “Revue du Vrai et du Beau” – Paris 26 April 1926. Oil on canvas, signed and dated “Böhm 1926” on top right. Inscriptions and date on stretcher frame and canvas on back.
