Cuban painter René Portocarrero began his art education at the San Alejandro Academy, but soon left, and is therefore considered a "self-taught person." He organized his first exhibition in 1934 at the Havana Lyceum, thus beginning a long and fruitful career, which in 1937 included working with Marian Rodríguez and working as a teacher of painting and sculpture for "free studies". After traveling in Haiti, Europe and the United States, he presented his first show to a foreign audience at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York in 1945. His bouquets are full of energy and a living swirl of pasty strokes that build a plastic vital composition. Restored.
