Petr Sturma attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1948–1954, where he studied under Jan Lauda and Otakar Spaniel, and was the husband of painter and printmaker Alena Antonova. He created the Albert Einstin memorial plaque located at the entrance to the Faculty of Science of Charles University (unveiled on 2 June 1965) and a bust of his great-uncle, mathematics professor and Chancellor of Charles University in Prague Karel Petr (National Gallery in Prague, Prague City Gallery).
