Absolutely unique in the work of Josef Vyleťal is this painting, "Jewish Christmas", the execution of which stands on the threshold of Czech structural abstraction – a movement that started to take shape during the gradual liberalization of the late 1950s. Despite the relative segmentation among artists and the various approaches they took, they were characterized by their dark monochromatic color, the use of Brutalist structures, Lettrist and other material records. Josef Vyleťal alludes to the conflict of cults in this painting as well. Against a black matrix he lets his imagination randomly flow, placing small geometric shapes into colored or layered contrast with the thick background.
