Claude Michel, known as Clodion, was a French sculptor of the Rococo style, best known for his works in marble, bronze and terracotta. Clodion's works include the statue of Montesquieu and the Dying Cleopatra. In 1782 he executed the decoration of the nymphs in the Hôtel de Besenval. His 1788 work The Dance of Time is in the Frick Collection in New York. Another famous sculpture is called Intoxication with Wine, one of his last groups representing Homer as a beggar being driven away by fishermen. The bronze cast offered here is a later realization, depicting a family in motion with attributes of abundance.
