Jakub Obrovský was born into the family of a peasant landowner and studied at AVU with Max Pirner. In 1909, he joined the Association of Moravian Artists. In 1919, he became a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His work also includes figural symbolist work, and he also became a co-designer of the first Czechoslovak postage stamps. The portrait of a girl in a pink dress was exhibited at the Leopold Museum in Vienna at the exhibition Grund, Mucha, Čapek... Tschechische Malerei aus der Sammlung Kooperativa.
