This impressive Empire clock made of bravura gilded bronze is a perfect example of the masterful French bronzing tradition. The clock depicts the charioteer goddess of dawn, Aurora, with a lit torch in her hand, standing on a chariot drawn by the winged horses known as Lampos and Phaeton. The composition is dynamically influenced by the flowing drapery and scattered clouds, which contrast with the rectangular large base with Empire ornamentation. The enamelled rim with Roman numerals is depicted as a carriage wheel with visible internal mechanism, steel hands, the whole beating. Marked at the bottom of the dial: PICNOT PERE A PARIS. Excellent condition with no signs of damage.
