František Bílek was a representative of the era of symbolism and Art Nouveau. As a sculptor, carver, potter, graphic artist, draftsman and illustrator, he imprinted a strong social feeling in his work with an appeal to intense human experiences, psychospiritual development and the perception of human destiny. In collaboration with the Chýnov potters, František Bílek started to experiment with ceramics. The entire Chýnov decade (1892-1902) means in his work the development of artistic ideas and realizations in this direction. The coarser texture of the vase with abstract stuck on applications evoke figures and fully corresponds to Bílek's concept, where he fully acknowledges the material's natural tendencies and structures. In 1868 he had a house built in Chýnov, which was also supposed to serve as a studio, and he returned there after the occupation of Prague in 1941.
