Ilya Repin was a Russian painter and educator, a representative of critical realism. He painted scenes from the life of the Russian people, current political events and historical themes. He is the author of a number of portraits of his contemporaries. In the 1920s, the cult of his realistic art was gradually built up and was portrayed as a model of socialist realism. His works appear on the market very rarely and have considerable potential. Their power lies primarily in the critical depiction of reality without the slightest embellishments. Repin's works include Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan on November 16, 1581, an iconic work of Russian art history exhibited in the foremost exhibition hall of Russian art - Tretyakov State Gallery.
