Oil on cardboard. Signed lower right: “TRH NA LETNÉ / K. Boháček”.
In his early works, including “The Market at Letná”, it is evident that Boháček, a student of Professors Bukovac, Thiele and Krattner at the Academy of Fine Arts, was initially influenced by Impressionism and his figurative painting by Jan Preissler. In his later work, Boháček shifted towards spaciousness and simplicity. His works were often exhibited at the Modern Gallery of the Kingdom of Bohemia. In 1910 he became a member of the Umělecká Beseda art association in Prague. He created poetic landscapes and figurative genre scenes from village life, influenced by Art Nouveau decorativism and folk art. After 1927, in the final period of the premature end to his life, he lived at a tuberculosis sanatorium in Pleš, where he painted some of his most beautiful works. A posthumous exhibition of his work was held at Umělecká Beseda at Aleš Hall in 1928.
