The post-war period was a time of introspection for the artist. He developed his work independently of period trends and movements. In the 1950s he occasionally returned to several pre-war themes, but with a new perspective. In 1952 he created a series of villages in which the landscape is reduced to blocks of color, but retain its lyricism and certain dream-like quality. With its bright but refreshing green and purple tones and clear turquoise sky, the landscape of Yerres, south of Paris, may evoke fields of lavender. Oil on canvas, signed and dated "J.
