This portrait of an unknown man is undoubtedly the work of Karel Purkyně. The way in which the paint is applied, the dark browns and ochres, and his work with light, which is focused on the face of the subject of the portrait, are typical for the artist. The work can be ascribed to the period when Purkyně studied at the Academy in Munich, i.e., around 1854-55. Oil on canvas, glued to cardboard, signed "Purkyně". Assessment: PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová.
