The Sisters by the prominent Czech sculptor Olbram Zoubek are a model of the large cement sculptures of the same name that Zoubek created in 1987 for the staircase of the Haas department store at 847/4 Na Příkopě Street, built in 1869-1871 as the first modern department store in Prague. The sculptures are also located at one of the entrances to the Czech Television building. In his artistic expression, Zoubek has arrived at a characteristic expression based on a very expressive and haptic work with matter and verticality. After graduating from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Josef Wagner's studio, Olbram Zoubek turned to restoring historical sculptures and sgraffiti, mainly because he was inconvenient for the regime as an artist and could not exhibit officially. However, he continued to devote himself to sculpture; in 1996 he was awarded the state Medal of Merit, 1st degree. His largest retrospective exhibition to date, comprising some 300 exhibits, took place in 2013 in the Prague Castle Riding Hall. The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Kmentová Zoubek Foundation by PhDr. Polana Bregantová.
