Jindra Viková gained international fame in the 1980s for her precisely painted two-dimensional porcelain heads. After creating a post-revolutionary series of totems with elements of indigenous art, the artist again turned to the theme of faces, now with a more general, almost philosophical, character. Here the matter is characterized by light shades of painting and creates an impression of plasticity. The portraits become a universal symbol. "Lips," as Terezie Zemánková writes, "which used to articulate, now only whisper." The author adds to the cycle of faces: "The faces of the people I meet have always made the strongest impression on me. Although many of them disappear and never return, it leaves me curious about what lies behind these faces. And even as my memories gradually fade, I try to retain at least the most basic idea. They represent small fragments of a scattered whole - a fragment of a past encounter." Her work is characterised by a touch of surreality, the rounded sculptures evoking dreamlike moods of other worlds. Vikova has exhibited both solo and in group shows in Europe, the United States, where she also worked, Japan, Australia and other countries, and has received several prestigious awards.
