Harlequin drawn by František Tichý, a leading figure of the Czech avant-garde of the 1940s. The head of a character from the classic Italian Commedia dell’arte with a high hat - Harlequin (Arlecchino) - inspires the artist to this day. Originally a poor farmer, coming in patched clothes from the mountains of Bergamo, this is the source of his mottled, plaid clothing. In France, his clothing at the court was stylized, instead of patches, he began to wear clothing made of colored squares. From the concise preparatory sketch of the harlequin, shown by the simplest means of expression, we fully feel the authenticity of the environment and, as it were, the urgency of human destiny. Artwork comes from the property of Anna Fárová.
