Dutch sculptor of European significance created one of the first sculptures for emperor Rudolf II. and portrayed him three times. The allegory of ancient motifs was a sought-after element for the emperor, and De Vries created several ancient-themed works for him. Adrian de Vries later received a monumental order from Albrecht of Wallenstein to decorate the garden enclosed to his palace. Unfortunately, the statues have not been preserved in the garden, they were taken away by the Swedish army and currently decorate the park at Drottingholm Palace. In his works we can observe the tendency of rippling bodies to rise upwards in a spiral.
