Rare work by the Czech-Polish symbolist Wlastislav Hofman, who made a significant contribution to art between the two great wars. The work is directly related to the earlier painting of the Coronation of the Madonna, where the Virgin Mary, clothed in traditional costume, receives a crown and two children, one of whom plays the gudok, watch her. In the image of the Promised land, we see the Madonna in the same familiar landscape and also in clothing with folklore elements. Only the plot and the characters of the painting moved a bit forward in time, and an angel suddenly appeared at Mary's feet. Wlastimil Hofman was especially fond of the Marian theme, which is reflected in all his works. He gives the theme a lyrical, intimate character. We deal here with folk stylization, characteristic of young Polish artists. Exhibition label from Krakov gallery from behind.
