In his time, Josef Brož was perceived as an excellent landscape painter and figuralist. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague with Hofbauer and a year later in Paris with František Kupka. He painted the Czech landscape in the late summer of 1947 with piles of straw and a house martin flying in the sky. The range and density of colors, which he places on the canvas in the spirit of the expressionist tradition, emit the evening calm in the landscape and create a meditative impression.
