Prague iconography is typical for the artist. In addition to bridges, Žižkov occupies a very special place in Beneš’ oeuvre. For many years he lived and had a studio in the Prague neighborhood. He was fascinated by outlying areas and enjoyed capturing the “olden days” and times that will never return. As indicated by inscriptions on the stretcher frame, the painting was made in 1979–1980 – towards the end of Beneš’ life. Oil on canvas, signed “Beneš” and dated on bottom right.
