Although Lada's landscapes cannot be viewed in terms of classic landscape painting, his oeuvre features a distinct period, approximately from 1923, when he did focus on the landscape, investigating the treatment of the horizon line and attempting to capture a sense of depth. He usually returns to the landscape of his native Hrusice, to the picturesque architecture that often includes human or animal figures. As a result, Lada's landscapes often tell a story. This painting is a variation of his painting "On the Village Green", also from 1927. Here the artist maintains his classic planar style with a dominant church tower in the center, a row of houses with gabled façades, and a pond, all of which enliven the details of birds flying in the sky, a goose on the pond, a chicken in front of a gate, and a female figure on the road.
