The author was a painter and a decorator, student of a Charles Le Brun. Subsequently he worked under his leadership in a famous Parisian tapestry manufactory and cooperate on a decoration of the Versailles Chateau. He was a member of a Royal Academy of Painting. From 1699 till 1704 he was a director of the French Academy in Rome. The equestrian portrait of the French king is made in the spirit of academic painting. It is set in the battle, that takes a place on a background. The ruler is illustrated as a commander. Oil on copper plate.
