Augustin Ságner belonged to the interwar avant-garde and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with prof. Pirner, Preisler, Thiele and Nechleby. He adopted a specific lyrical style highlighting female figures with pastel but very vivid colors. He moved on the borders of magical realism and abstraction, and in his works he often painted figures with an abstracted face and gradually added geometrizing features to them.
