Mrkvička was active as a painter, illustrator, cartoonist, editor, art critic, set designer and also a typographer. In Mrkvička, a real personality of extraordinary creative energy and a unique creative boom grew up in the 1920s, which can be compared to Karel Teige, with whom he worked closely at that time. It is said that he became a member of Devětsil in 1922 and less than a year later he already took the records of their meetings and became one of the pillars of this revolutionary association. From the opinion of PhDr. Rea Michalová Ph.D .: "The judged painting "Cat in the Window" bears all the hallmarks of Mrkvička's mature work, which has always managed to preserve the poetics of "all the beauties of the world" and the youthful charm of the early twenties. It can be perceived as a certain quintessence of the poetry of the "home fireplace", the festive and at the same time completely unpretentious well-being, the magical world of everyday things, seen with childish enthusiastic eyes, with the indisputable, advanced ability of color "magic" and artistic reduction , about which he sings in Werich's famous song "Cat on the Window".
