Jiřikovský’s most important creative period is the 1920s, when he created genre sculptures and portrait studies primarily in colored plaster. His works are modeled in the spirit of Social Civilism as figures, perhaps puppet-like, with stout legs and rounded stylization. He also created competitors in other sports: Boxers (1924) and Tennis Player (1929). Josef Jiříkovský studied sculpture at the School of Applied Arts in 1911–1914 and under Professor Josef Václav Myslbek at the Academy of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Devětsil and Umělecká Beseda art groups, and in 1924 he joined the Mánes Union of Fine Artists.
