From the assessment by PhDr. Hana Seifertová: “The scene plays out on a flat landscape, a backdrop of tall trees appears from the left, low vegetation in the foreground. Visible in the background is a burning town with falling houses, towers and bridges. The flames dart high into the skies, the thick smoke partially covering the destruction of the town. Lot and his daughters form the central group. He is animatedly speaking with two angels, who are forcing him to flee. The coloring of the entire group is very impressive – Lot’s greyish blue clothing next to the yellow mantle on his daughter in the background, the dark blue gowns of the angels, and the off-white tunic with a pink shawl on his other daughter. The painting convincingly describes a dramatic scene from the Old Testament (Genesis 19:10–26). The painterly confidence of the portrayal, the vividness of the roughly sketched painting, and the almost pastel colors of the attire endow the painting with a compelling attractiveness.”
