Francouzská škola GRAPE HARVEST

Gallant and village celebrations (fêtes galantes a champêtres) were a popular theme in France in the mid-18th century – a bucolic genre that drew on Italian pastoral landscape and Flemish and Dutch genre paintings. A painter who was celebrated for his depictions was Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684–1721) and his followers, including Nicolas Lancret and Jean-Baptiste Pater. The iconography of Grape Harvest places it among the Watteau-style village celebrations. Dionysus, the god of wine and unbridled celebration, is present in the form of a bust overseeing the party. Rococo architecture crowned by a monumental vase brings together the dynamic composition.
