The underappreciated painter Jan Vyletal, the twin of the well-known imaginative painter and poster designer Josef, held a number of technically-oriented jobs until he started to focus on painting in his later years. He did not paint regularly until he was 65 years old; he stopped working five years later due to health problems. During this relatively short period, however, he created a very balance and remarkable oeuvre of nearly 200 pictures, which leading geometric art expert Jiri Valoch believes is unparalleled worldwide due to its originality in the field of geometric abstraction. His technically exacting paintings, full of imagination and mystery, are also a unique artistic expression of the artist’s close relationship to astrophysics and cosmology.
