Working practically in seclusion, Ludmila Padrtová created a remarkable collection of paintings and drawings in the second half of the 1950s that are categorized under the broad Lyrical Abstraction movement. According to art historians, she stands alongside Vladimir Boudik as a central figure in early Czech post-war abstraction. However, in 1961 the artist decided to stop and in the following years she gave away or destroyed her works. Padrtová did not return to art until 2011, and over the course of three years she created a unique complementary counterpart to her early work.
