An inimitable, brilliantly drawn rendition of Toyen's favorite subject in fine illustration – the melancholic daydreaming face of a young woman. A portrait of a girl with her hair down, usually with a botanical element, also appears in her other works. Toyen was one of the most distinctive female artists in Czech and international art in the 20th century. She broke from conventional society by leading a Bohemian lifestyle; in her work she stood up against the bourgeoisie and hypocrisy in art and society.
