The author studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Vratislav Nechleba and Otakar Španiel in 1917-1924. He was a member of the SVU Mánes (Society of Visual Arts). His work was to a large extent influenced by Cubism and Expressionism. However, Piskač's promising career was cut short; in 1928, on his way to Corsica, where he had been wishing to paint again, he contracted typhoid fever and died in Lyon the following spring, at the early age of 31. The paintings of Bedřich Piskač appear only seldom in the art dealing business and so represent a rare and valuable commodity. Oil on canvas, signed and dated bottom right: B.Piskač 27. The work was published in an article by František Kovárna: Bedřich Piskač, Free Routes, 1929-30, pg 227; also in a monograph by Libuše Brožková, Bedřich Piskač, NČVU, Prague 1961, image 23.
