A large painting (with frame 129.5x187.5cm). Landscape with a Lake is a beautiful work, undoubtedly authored by Adolf Chwala, a painter who was long-forgotten and only recently received his well-deserved recognition at an exhibition in the Prague National Gallery (2011)." Chwala studied at the Prague Academy in the atelier of Maxmilian Haushofer who came from the Munich Academy; furthermore, Chwala was a proponent of the Romantic landscape painting of the second half of the 19th century. He left for Vienna in 1864, where he made his reputation, especially for his dramatic landscape painting. Due to high demand, he was even commissioned to make authorial copies of some of his works.
