Hlava studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design under Professor Karel Štipl. He was one of the first artists to move glass into the realm of art. His work involved studying and developing new glassmaking techniques. He was renowned as a glassmaker both in Czechoslovakia and internationally. Hlava was a permanent jury member for the international contemporary glass exhibitions in Kanazawa, Japan, where the Pavel Hlava Prize is awarded. Hot sculpted red and yellow studio glass, signed on bottom: P. Hlava. This work comes from the artist's estate.
