Antonín Kybal's path to his unique artistic expression was rather thorny. The son of a businessman and former co-owner of a textile factory was expected to carry on the family tradition. But Antonín Kybal secretly applied to UMPRUM, where he excelled in the sculpture studio of Josef Mařatka. Researching the painting itself also did not take long. Through painting, Antonín Kybal investigated color relationships, optics, the expressive effectiveness of pictorial surfaces, and subsequently applied the knowledge in the textile work for which he became famous. He did not have much faith in painting as such and, with exceptions, never exhibited his works. The reclining nude comes from the author's family.
