Ota Janeček (1919 - 1996) A LIKENESS OF A WOMAN

The stylized likeness of a woman with closed eyes with a melancholic atmosphere dated 9 December 1946 is an unusual early work by the Czech artist Ota Janeček, who was a member of the S.V.U. at the time. Mánes. His first paintings were marked by the expressiveness typical of the war period. Janeček's lifetime of extensive work was crowned in 1995 with a large retrospective exhibition at the Mánes in Prague. Ota Janeček is represented by his works in the National Gallery in Prague, the Tate Gallery in London, the National Library in Paris, the MC Nay Institute in San Antonio (USA), the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts in Japan and the National Gallery of Wales.
