Alois Jaroněk was born in Zlín on 23 April 1870. He, his brother Bohumír and sister Julia formed an artistic trio who complemented each other in their art and work for art and the region of Moravian Wallachia. Bohumír and Alois studied wood carving and modelling at a woodworking school. After graduating, Alois modelled luxurious majolica pottery in Pest. He travelled abroad for his art education, and thanks to the experience he gained we was later able to open his own factory. He was celebrated not only as a prolific artist, but also as the founder of the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov. On 11 November 1944 Lidové noviny wrote about Alois Jaroněk: “In our lands there is perhaps no other region that has so wonderfully cared for the preservation of its unique features than Moravian Wallachia. And it should primarily thank the Jaroněk siblings for this, and certainly the now deceased Alois Jaroněk.” Although his work is influenced by elements of Art Nouveau, he strictly preserved his unique character featuring Wallachian folk elements.
