A first work by Magdalena Jetelová, created shortly after her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. The print reflects the artist's entire future work. The view from a window – foreshadowing her Land Art projects – is connected with another fundamental area of her work, photography. Magdalena Jetelová studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1967–68, then studied in Italy for two years and graduated from the Academy after her return (1971). In 1985 she emigrated to West Germany, where she continues to live today. In 1990 – 2004 she taught at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and since 2004 she has been a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After the Velvet Revolution she was a consultant for the Prague Castle Council. Her installation at Belvedere Summer Palace in 1993 marked the first time her work was exhibited to Czech audiences. Magdalena Jetelová is one of the most interesting and courageous artists of today. Her strength lies in her sensitivity to expanding space, passion for the sculptural dimension of architecture, and experience with power, which does not differentiate between truth and lies. Since the mid-1980s her work has been shown at many foreign institutions and at art shows, including the Tate Modern, the Biennale of Sydney, documenta 8 in Kassel, and at solo exhibitions at Riverside Studios in London and MoMA in New York.
