Vilém Kreibich spent his childhood in a railway environment, which influenced his later work. After his studies, he devoted himself mainly to painting pictures depicting steam locomotives and railway operations, but he also designed promotional posters. The present subject of two racing cars is unique in his work, but not incomprehensible. It is possible that the dynamics of the racing machines and the swirling dust reminded him of something close to his heart that had inspired him so many times. Sporting bugattis appear in a handful of paintings, usually hurtling forward in a cloud of smoke like his beloved steam locomotives. The expressiveness of the expression underlines the fleeting and dramatic nature of the moment that can decide the winner of the race.
