Václav Hejna (1914 - 1985) GAMBLER AND COMPOSITION

Václav Hejna belonged to a group of young, talented artists called Seven in October, named after the number of its founding members, who were Josef Liesler, Zdenek Seydl, Arnošt Paderlík, Jan Rafael Michálek, Jan Lukas, Václav Plátek and Václav Hejna, and the month of their first exhibition. Václav Hejna moved from expressiveness to completely non-figurative work as in the case of the presented double-sided work. He often chose striking themes of inner struggle or rebellion against society and was described by the regime as explicitly provocative. The concept of matter crystallizes here in the culminating form of assemblage.
