From the expert assessment by PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "The presented painting with the Bust of a Nobleman is an indisputable and very high-quality work of Václav Brožík. One of Brožík's many genre costume portraits, in this case painted in the spirit of the popular Dutch mannerists. The finely conceived elegant Bust of a Nobleman was probably created in the early 1990s and is clearly due to the portraits of Frantis Halse. Brožík painted a number of portraits and figures in historical costumes, on the one hand they were in demand by art collectors at the time, and on the other hand they served Brožík as a study of great historical compositions. Paintings of this type by the painter's father-in-law, owner of the monday gallery on Rue de la Rochefoucald 6, Charles Sedelmeyer, the foremost and best-known painting dealer, sold not only in Europe but also in the United States. Similar figures and portraits of Brožík can be found in both state and private collections, some of which were exhibited at Brožík 's Prague group exhibition in 2003."
