Václav Březina was one of the most important students of Julius Mařák, whom he had met while studying under Professor Kautsky in Vienna. In 1887, when Mařák started to teach landscape painting at the Prague Academy, Březina registered to study under him and remained a student until 1892. The strong influence of his professor's style is evident in the selection of subjects and the brushwork. Romantic forest still lifes and views of brooks, moors and meadows appear frequently, transitioning depending on the season and light.
