Jaroslav "Jaro" Procházka studied at the Prague School of Applied Arts and subsequently attended Alois Kalvoda privately. He devoted himself to Old Prague motifs, which he depicted in the spirit of impressionism, often in a slightly idealised way, so that the atmosphere of the streets and corners would stand out. He travelled around Europe in search of painting experience, and a set of paintings of European cities was awarded the Annual Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts and Sciences in 1931.
