Ludvík Kuba showed artistic inclinations since childhood. It first manifested itself in music when he was learning to play the violin and the organ, and he also contributed pictures to magazines. He also showed a strong feeling for the study of ethnography and studied at the AVU with Max Pirner. Visits abroad brought tones of impressionism and expressionism into his paintings. He also painted a large number of self-portraits, on which he liked to try bolder colors. As he himself said - the painter always has himself at hand. The presented work can be placed in the 1930s, when his work shows a combination of darker contrasting tones in the background with a freer impressionistic-tuned handwriting and opalescent flashes of blue and green underpainting.
