Pál Szinyei Merse was one of the pioneers of Impressionism in Central Europe. He studied painting at the academy in Munich. He founds the first Hungarian Society of Modern Art and the Circle of Hungarian Impressionists. Immediately after his death in 1920, his students founded the Szenei Merse Society, which had an influence on art in Hungary in the period between the world wars. His free brush "handwriting" is combined with a pleasant vitalistic color full of optimism and joy of life.
