From the early 1960s Hugo Demartini was one of the artists who radically changed the face of Czech sculpture. He was a member of the broader neo-constructivist current of the time, participating in the exhibitions Křižžovatka (1964) and Nová sensitivity (1968). In the mid-1960s, the artist's selection of sculptural forms narrowed down to the theme of the sphere, and soon the first iconic Demartini objects with a chrome mirror surface were created: these were produced until around 1974. Their mirrored surface reflects the surrounding world and any movement: the casual viewer and his surroundings thus become part of the work. He died suddenly in September 2010, in the midst of preparations for a retrospective. A few months after his death, Gallery Publishing published a comprehensive monograph, which he had still managed to participate in the preparation of. The offered work comes from the estate of architect Josef Wagner.
