The three seasons are from Mucha's first cycle of decorative pano. The panto set was so popular that Champenois asked him to create two additional sets on the same theme in 1897 and 1900. There are proposals for two more series. The idea of personifying the seasons was nothing new - examples can be found in the works of the Old Masters, as well as in other publications by Champenois. Mucha's ethereal women (nymphs) against the backdrop of seasonal scenes in the landscape breathed new life into this classic theme. In the four pano's, Mucha captured the mood of the seasons - innocent spring, sensual summer, fertile autumn and frosty winter - which together represent a harmonious natural cycle. Framed together in an Art Nouveau Eck type frame under anti-reflective glass with UV filter.
