The icon of the patronage of St. The Mother of God refers to the theme when Theokotos removes the veil and uses it to protect the city. The icon is imaginarily divided into two parts - celestial and terrestrial. The Protection of the Mother of God is one of the most popular holidays in the Orthodox calendar, which is commemorated on October 1. The feast celebrates the apparition of the Mother of God in Constantinople in the 10th century at a time when people in the city were threatened by a barbarian invasion.
