The stylized portrait of a woman with closed eyes with a melancholic atmosphere is a paraphrase of the portrait from December 9, 1946 and is an unusual early pose of the Czech artist Ota Janeček, who at that time was a member of the S.V.U. Manes. His first paintings were marked by the expressiveness typical of the war period. Janeček's lifelong extensive work was completed in 1995 with a large retrospective exhibition in Prague's Mánes. Ota Janeček's works are represented in the National Gallery in Prague, the Tate Gallery in London, the National Library in Paris, the MC Nay Institute in San Antonio (USA), the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts in Japan, and the National Gallery of Wales.
